Do all table tennis rackets (shake hands) need to have a traditional round shape?
Since the 1880s, ping-pong paddles have mainly been the same shape. At STIGA, we believe it's time to discover new play characteristics for rackets. That's why we've been working on developing, testing and improving new types of rackets for several years, and we believe this will create a new style of play.
And now we are very proud to announce the results. Cyber shape, a hexagonal racket with unique features that you have never seen or experienced.
When developing a cyber shape, it was important that its shape did not adversely affect the shot feeling. The sensations are so subjective that every player has their own tastes, so not only do you test your racket with a professional player, but you also look at your racket in the lab and get data that is independent of your personal taste. Did.
CyberShapes decided early on to build on test results and objective evaluations rather than subjective preferences.
Research on cybershapes proceeded with the "Racket Lab" in collaboration with Royal Institute of Technology and our contract players.
During the course of development, we studied hundreds of shapes, each with subtle differences.
I wanted to find the best shape to improve the sweet spot while feeling the vibration caused by the impact of the ball better. Of particular interest is the new shape not only made the sweet spot larger, but also moved the sweet spot to the tip on the racket.
This means that the sweet spot is further on the tip of the racket, with the majority of players making the best strokes and finding the best hitting area, both technically and objectively.
Regarding the shot feeling, we investigated the noise and vibration generated when hitting the ball. We investigated not only the vibration at the center of the racket, but also the vibration of the grip and the vibration of the outside and sides of the racket.
The combination of these two measurements gives a better understanding of the particular feel the player feels during play, with a carefully selected combination of wood and a unique manufacturing process that makes STIGA's Swedish racket unique. I did.
In collaboration with KTH Royal Institute of Technology, we also tested the vibration characteristics of cyber shapes when hit.
As a result of the test, it was found that the cyber shape has a larger sweet spot at the tip compared to the racket of the normal shape.
In other words, the vibration is transmitted to the grip and hand in an unusual way.
